Ba Meng Village

Grown deep in the mountains of Ba Meng Village, near Meng Song, the Hani people cultivate tea trees spread over a diverse landscape. They’ve tended these trees for many generations, processing the teas completely by hand and heating them by wood fire. The landscape and their methods give distinctive character to their teas: a noticeable strength and smoothness of raw Puer that makes it drinkable and fresh.

We purchased this tea in its loose leaf form (mao cha) before it went for pressing…while it will still age nicely, this adds to the fun of brewing fresh leaves and exemplifies the large size of the Assamica varietal!

Another note that makes this tea one of a kind: We helped process this tea! After observation and a training session, they let us try our hand at our first “cooking” of the tea leaves. It was quite a powerful and humbling experience. See attached photos!
