Japanese Wild Cherry Leaf
桜の葉
Summer 2023 Harvest
Sakurabacha from Izu, Shizuoka, Japan
A naturally caffeine-free herbal tea from the specially cultivated Japanese Cherry tree. Cherry leaf is selected and processed in a manner similar to many teas, yielding a cup similar to a light oolong tea, without the caffeine. Pour a cup for a strong cherry aroma, and sweet golden infusion that comes naturally from the well cared-for leaf. Nothing added.
Harvested from Wild Cherry trees, pesticide-free.
$6.00 – $179.00

I’m not generally a fan of herbal teas – and in fact have drank very little tea in general the past few years – but I thought this one was fantastic. What a lovely flavor.

An extremely pleasant and fragrant surprise! A most enjoyable caffeine-free option. I had to bring some home.

I’ve been using this to make cherry-infused bourbon – two tablespoons of the cherry-leaf tea, rinse with off-boil water for 10 seconds, strain out then leaves and then add them to a fifth of good neutral bourbon such as Maker’s Mark. Let it sit for a few days at room temp, giving it a shake once a day, and optionally remove the leaves after a week. It is fantastic.

Yes! Great idea to combine the Cherry Leaf with Bourbon…natural complements to each other. The recipe sounds spot on too…Bai Hao Oolong is another favorite with Bourbon. We’ve been playing with other tea infusions as well…endless fun possibilities!

In addition to being wonderful as a hot tea, it makes yummy herbal kombucha!
